America’s First Settlers

Posted in Native Americans by Administrator on the April 27th, 2011

Though one would think they know everything about Native Americans after watching the three hour long epic “Dances With Wolves”, there’s a lot more than ceremonial chanting and headdresses. The rich, nearly endless culture of Native Americans spans the corners of our states in the form of a beautifully-woven Navajo blanket. It is a common misconception that all Native Americans were proficient in scalping, tomahawk throwing, and were frequently participating in shamanistic rituals. Most tribes embraced the Earth, Nature, and lived some of the most natural and holistic lives out of any people in this world.

Learn how to construct your own teepee or ride a wild buffalo like Atreyu from “The NeverEnding Story” with our fantastic selection of Native American verbiage. Our favorite book from the group is “How Indians use Wild Plants for Food, Medicine, & Crafts” because of its political-incorrectness and encouragement to hop off the power grid and freegan it up with a spork and a mission.

High Times on the High Seas

Posted in Pirates by Administrator on the April 19th, 2011

Donning a peg leg and slinging an eye-patch across your face doesn’t have to only be socially acceptable on Halloween. You can turn your gnarled swashbuckling, plundering, bootlegged hobby into a career by following in the footsteps of Blackbeard and learning a few buccaneer group melodies while haphazardly swinging your flagon like a pendulum. Though pirates may be ruthless and callous while commanding the oceans, they do make well-crafted bandanas emblazoned with the Jolly Roger that they’re more than happy to give away.

Though pirates are commonly depicted as merciless, violent smugglers, many times they simply abandon you on a remote island or have you walk the plank. Find out if you’d spare your hapless foes by reading through our fantastic selection of books concerning pirates and their lust for wholly-water domination. Who knows, you may be humming “the pirate’s life for me” while fashioning your canoe into a intimidating galleon of scallywag nature.

Remembering the Titanic

Posted in Titanic by Administrator on the April 15th, 2011

Today marks the anniversary of the ill-fated Titanic’s first and last voyage-99 years ago, not the 1997 movie with DiCaprio and Winslet. Though the blockbuster managed to stay afloat with its slew of Academy Awards, the stories and memories of the Titanic’s demise still remain in the murky depths of the ocean.

How much do you know about the Titanic? Was in an iceberg or in fact the legendary Leviathan that decided that the strength of the hull needed to be tested? Either way, Beyda and associates has a wonderful collection of Titanic-related books and videos that can give those that fancy shipwrecks something to preoccupy themselves with. With the selection of music, visuals, and stories we have available, you will feel like you’re right there on the Titanic, convincing people that you’re an extremely important business person so you have a place on one of the sparse lifeboats.

A Life of Arctic Sounds

Posted in Arctic Animals by Administrator on the April 6th, 2011

The Ursus Maritimus, or the more commonly known Polar Bear, is the effervescent ursine denizen of the arctic cold. Though it is not particularly at threat for extinction, the warming of the polar icecaps has literally began fragmenting its home, leaving helpless polar bears to fiend for themselves on individualized glacial floating platforms.

Though we all love Polar Bears most of all because of their human-like penchant for soft drinks, their role in ecology is essential to the cycle of life in the frigid realms of No Man’s Land. We offer a great selection of Polar Bear books to not only educate fledgling zoologists about their nature, but also give us a good argument as to why they should be domesticated to become ideal pets for our kids.
