It’s the beginning of the year and you know what that means? DIET DIET DIET. Let’s face it. Each year we place on our list of new years resolution “I am going to eat more healthy & exercise more often” – but what makes someone successful?

It is based on the overall health of the residents, how much exercise they get, how clean the air is, etc..

I am taking a class at the University of Central Florida, that is all about remaining healthy long into old age. Research proves that healthy eating, exercise, and stress reduction is the key. I know it sounds so obvious and basic but so many of us do not follow this simple advice. The really great thing from what I am learning is that it doesn’t say we can never eat another slice of pizza or chocolate cake, just make sure those types of foods aren’t the only thing we are eating. As far as exercise goes, any exercise is better than none. Find something you like to do. Walk, ride a bike, or dancing. Just get moving.

Stress is the main culprit for many health problems. It lowers our immunity towards colds and germs, strains our hearts, and tricks our body into living in a constant “fight or flight” state. Besides throwing our sleep pattern and hormones out of whack, stress makes our bodies susceptible to more serious problems such as cancer.

We are 2 months into the new year and I just wanted to touch base and ask how are those healthy resolutions going? Mine are going pretty good. I have reached my goal of reducing my overall calorie intake which is very hard for me because I have always been the type of person that will work out just so I can eat more. Hahaha. Keep up the good work everyone!!
