Holiday Bliss
Summertime is like an imaginary friend-Really fun at first, but eventually you just want it to go away. Summer brings fall, and fall brings our first cherished holidays, beloved Football season, and the only way trees can get back at human beings for their brethren falling to deforestation. Once we move into November and Thanksgiving, we prepare ourselves for the annual turkey feasting extravaganza. Though we have turkey as the centerpiece of most of our dinners, this wasn’t the case for the original Thanksgiving! There were plenty of different birds, along with eel, lobster, and a slew of vegetable. History claims many different reasons why the turkey became synonymous with Thanksgiving (Ben Franklin, the Queen of England), but it’s pretty obvious it was decades of U.S. government lobbying and payola from the turkey industry.

Our own Family tradition
Every Christmas my 6 year old daughter looks forward to watching the classic Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Its something that we started with her when she was about 2.
I personally had never watched them when I was younger. I was more of a Mickey’s Christmas Carol or (my dad’s favorite) A Christmas Story (see earlier blog post).
But year after year, she has anticipated the return of Frosty and Rudolph. Every year we have DVR’d it so she could watch it over and over again, until about February when we would finally delete it.
This year with a baby in the house, we have missed the annual viewing of Frosty and Rudolph. That is when I finally decided it was time to purchase the DVD’s, so we could watch them (commercial free) and at our leisure.
It was truly the best decision ever. We are now able to take our beloved shows into the car, over to Grandma’s or watch in our pajamas sipping hot chocolate.

Time for A Christmas Story
Who hasn’t heard of Ralphie and his quest to convince his parents and Santa for his own Official Red Ryder Carbine-action 200 shot range model BB gun? This is the time when Ralphie (a young boy growing up in a 1940’s small Indiana Town) is just as popular as clumsy, funnyman, Clark W. Griswold.
If you haven’t seen A Christmas Story yet, you are in a for a real treat. From radio shows, to washing out your mouth with soap, to fighting at school to even (wait for it) double dog daring to stick a tongue to a frozen pole (you need to watch this movie, just for this scene), this movie is the Classic Christmas movie.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, what are you going to give thanks for this holiday season?
Thanksgiving is a traditional holiday for the United State and Canada. It is said that America will eat over 45 million turkeys for Thanksgiving. WOW! Plymouth Rock is where the pilgrims landed and made their permanent residence. The pilgrims befriended the Wampanoag tribe, and they taught the pilgrims how to fish, pick fruit, and hunt. The pilgrims gathered enough food for a 3 days feast; they invited the Wampanoag tribe to express their gratitude for teaching them how to gather food. Now, many consider Thanksgiving to be a secular holiday that allows us to get together and spend time with family and friends while enjoying a nice feast.
