Steven Sold Seashells by the Seashore

Hard outer shells are often times related to macho men that refuse to utilize their tear ducts during sad, sappy films. Pertaining to nature, shells are more of an exo-skeleton, housing the often gelatinous and frail innards of sea creatures. Though we often times admire the shells of creatures, and proceed to prod them with sharp objects, it is inconclusive whether or not they feel pain. Instead of taking out childlike aggressions on crustaceans, we should learn to pamper them with a light leaf of lettuce, wedge of lemon, and ramekin filled with melted garlic butter.

If you frequent the beach and are always flabbergasted by thin, porous shards of something scattered along the shoreline, it is about time you learned what a seashell is. Our large selection of books about shells will have you yearning for a impenetrable barrier around your exterior.

Summer Reading Programs

Posted in Summer Education by Administrator on the June 10th, 2010

Today is the first day of summer and it’s time to get your kids reading! There are reading programs available from your local library, chain stores and even some schools are keeping their libraries open so students can continue to read throughout their summer vacation.

The key to summer reading is to make it fun and give your children something to work towards. Many of the chain bookstores are offering a goal for summer readers like Barnes and Noble is offering read 8 books and get one free. Books-a-Million is offering a Magic Tree House Passport Program. Your child has between May 20th to August 1st to pick up a passport, read six books and receive a Magic Tree House tote bag.

Summer is a perfect time to promote reading to your child. During the school year reading is mandatory and many children look at reading their text books and other educational books as work. But in the summertime, reading can be introduced as a great leisure activity. It’s a great time to let them really appreciate what the world of books can do for them. Not only can they read educational books on wildlife, oceans, astronomy, etc. but they can also read books on cooking, science experiments and magic tricks. Maybe your little reader would enjoy a chapter book- there is nothing wrong with getting lost in a fictional story. No matter what their topic, the point is that they are reading and studies show that the more a child reads the better they will do in the classroom.

So this summer make reading all about fun. You can even create your own reward system. Buy some little “prizes” at your local dollar store and have your child earn the special treats by reading a certain number of books.

Be creative. If your child read a book on South America and the animals that live there, you can have craft time and make the animals your child read about using items you have around the house or take him or her to the zoo.

If your child has a special interest like space, dinosaurs, bugs etc. check out our children’s educational book section.

Beyda and Associates has books that will make everyone a happy reader this summer.

With all of the video games and cartoons available at your child’s finger tips, keeping his or her mind active during the summer can sometimes be challenging. An easy way to keep them sharp and ready to start school again is to give them books they find interesting and entertaining!

Creating a themed summer reading program with your child is an exciting way to study multiple topics. One week you can study underwater sea creatures and use titles such as See the Seal or Jenny Jellyfish and the next week study outer space with our Blast Off to the Moon book. Why stop with the books, why not take your children to your local aquarium and tell them to bring their book so they can identify what sea creature they are looking at!

Beyda & Associates offers a great selection of children’s books that are both fun and educational. It is a great way to teach your children and make learning a fun experience. By keeping your child’s mind active and sharp, the back to school adjustment should be easier and will give them something to look forward to.
